Artist Statement

I am interested in the development of our relationship with our direct surrounding.  In how we connect and shape our direct environment with our behaviour.

My work aims at revealing the beauty and concerns of our relationship with nature. I am deeply concerned by the current climate crisis and awareness of this is inherent in my work.

Analytical skills and research are as much part of my work as the material research that fits the end result. Most likely an influence of my studies and career as consultant

I love making something as abstract as a discussion visible and tangible. More often than not research findings feed into unexpected angles grounded in history. An example of this is the representation of the fragile position of women in a patriarchal society through the visualisation of paper flowers.

My process begins by researching the theme and environment it occurs in. What events shaped its current being and how is this information recorded over time in its presence; in its shape, color, sound, sense, smell or otherwise. These elements develop into work that demands its own material and expression, depending on the leading question or observation made. It can for example become a lighting object powered by potatoes, paper flowers or a weaving from plant fibres.

I believe the work is not autonomous in its nature, it aims at starting conversations and sharing viewpoints.

I use my strength to analyse and summarise in a clear and condense way to trigger people’s reflection process on their own behaviour and actions, with a particular focus on topics like nature, climate and social equality.
