About

We are increasingly confronted with extreme weather conditions. Periods of drought, heat, and flooding alternate more frequently. Plants, animals, and nature are all affected by these changes. Proper water regulation has become more critical than ever. The BeeBar provides a solution by gradually releasing water into the soil, preventing it from evaporating or draining away too quickly.

The BeeBar is a garden sculpture that is partially buried in the ground. By filling the vase with (rain)water, plant roots can access water as needed. The lid serves an additional purpose, helping insects that also enjoy a refreshing drink on hot days.

Join in helping nature thrive and enjoy a garden full of life!

Supporting ecology

With hotter, drier summers becoming more common due to climate change, gardeners face the challenge of keeping plants hydrated without wasting water. Traditional watering methods can be inefficient—water either evaporates quickly or drains away before it can benefit plants. Insects, essential indicators of our ecosystem's health, also struggle to find water during these periods.

The BeeBar reflects a commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. It encourages gardeners to embrace small, impactful actions that help protect nature while enjoying the simple pleasures of a thriving, lively garden.

By using a BeeBar, you’re not only conserving water but also supporting the insects that play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.

Cor Unum Design Contest Nominee 2024

The BeeBar design was nominated for the Cor Unum Design Contest 2024, themed “Growth”. The BeeBar aligns seamlessly with Cor Unum’s values of sustainability and innovation. The jury praises the design for its well-chosen colors and potential, as well as its beautiful and colorful addition to the garden.

For garden enthusiasts and environmentalists alike, the BeeBar is a practical yet artistic solution. It merges function with form, offering an eco-friendly way to water plants and support wildlife while adding a touch of beauty to your outdoor space.

Design

The vase is made from porous ceramic that absorbs and slowly releases water to plant roots. This ensures efficient hydration, with minimal water loss to evaporation or drainage.

The BeeBar features a lid that doubles as a drinking station for insects. Its sloped edges make it easy for them to land and drink, regardless of the water level.

The BeeBar’s organic design, resembling the layered petals of flowers like daffodils or roses, adds charm and color to your garden, making it as beautiful as it is functional.

Sustainable production

Each BeeBar is handcrafted and fired only once at a low temperature, reducing its environmental footprint. The natural colors of the clay mean no extra pigment is needed, saving resources and production time. Additional colours are used by applying a layer of coloured slip to the exterior, also reducing the need for precious resources.

Each BeeBar is handcrafted on a potter’s wheel. In line with sustainability, they are made to order. Care and creativity ensure every piece is unique. Collections are released every spring, so secure your BeeBar today and take a step towards a greener, more vibrant world!

Versatile use

Available in various sizes, the BeeBar suits balconies, gardens, and public spaces. The vase and lid can also be used separately: the vase for displaying wildflower arrangements or gathering garden waste, and the lid as a bird feeder.

How to use the BeeBar:

  1. Partially bury your BeeBar in the soil among your plants.
  2. Fill the vase with (rain)water, allowing it to gradually release moisture into the soil. Regularly refill, especially during warm weather.
  3. Plant roots will grow towards the pot and absorb water as needed. This ensures your plants stay hydrated while conserving water.
  4. Place the lid on top to minimize evaporation and keep the water clean. Fill the lid with water and refresh it regularly so insects can drink from it.
  5. The pot is porous, enabling it to absorb and release water. This makes it susceptible to frost damage. It’s advised to remove the BeeBar from the ground before the first frost.

Now all that’s left is to enjoy your garden filled with blooming flowers and buzzing insects!
